Protection Visas

As Featured In

If you fear persecution or are at risk of significant harm in your home country, you may be able to apply for a protection visa.

If you are in Australia and you wish to apply for protection, we are here to help.

There are different protection visa options depending on your circumstances.

Subclass 866 Protection Visa

This visa is for people who are in Australia and want to apply for protection. If you arrived on a valid visa, the 866 visa lets you stay in Australia permanently, engage Australia’s protection obligations and meet all other requirements.

Subclass 785 Temporary Protection Visa

This visa is for people who arrived in Australia without a valid visa, and want to apply for protection. It lets you stay in Australia temporarily if you engage Australia’s protection obligations and meet all other requirements for the visa.

Subclass 790 Safe Haven Enterprise Visa

This visa is for people who arrived in Australia illegally and want to apply for protection. It lets you stay in Australia temporarily if you engage Australia’s protection obligations and meet all other requirements for the visa

If you hold a Temporary Protection visa (TPV) or a Safe Haven Enterprise visa (SHEV) you must apply for a subsequent TPV or SHEV before your current visa expires. If you do not apply before your visa expires, you will become unlawful and will be barred from applying for a subsequent visa.
