On 30 November 2022, the Albanese Government welcomed the confirmation that the Indian Government had completed its domestic requirements to enable completion of the historic Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA).

This ground-breaking trade agreement between Australia and India is set to deliver new market access opportunities for several Australian businesses and consumers from 29 December 2022.
A thousand places have been made available to young and adventurous Indians under the Work and Holiday Program.
Additionally, high-performing science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) Indian students graduating in Australia will have access to a bonus year of stay on their post-study work visa.
